Domestic drama has Gilbert Grape (Johnny Depp) dealing with both younger brother Arnie (Leonardo DiCaprio), who's on the autism spectrum, and his morbidly obese mother, Bonnie (Darlene Cates).
Set in the fictitious ‘Endora, Iowa’, it was actually made in Texas, in the town of Manor, just east of state capital Austin. The water tower is at the junction of Old US-290 / Parsons Street and South Lexington Street.
The town square is nearby Lockhart, seen also in Christopher Guest’s Waiting for Guffman.
The Grape house was on Hodde Lane, outside Pflugerville, but nothing remains after its conflagration at the climax of the movie.
