As much a musical celebrating the Blues as a horror movie, Ryan Coogler's genre-busting movie is set in 'Clarksdale, Mississippi' (a real place) in the 1930s, but was filmed entirely in Louisiana, all within a 50-mile radius of New Orleans. Find out exactly where.

The Main Street of 'Clarksdale' is in the city of Donaldsonville, at the junction of the Mississippi River and Bayou Lafourche, about 30 miles south of Baton Rouge.

It's the 200 block of Railroad Avenue between Iberville Street and Nicholls Street in the city's historic Railroad District.

The area was not just repainted and redressed to become the Thirties but more than a dozen small businesses – grocery store, gas station, movie theater, barber shop and hotel were built just for the film.

The home of Annie (Wunmi Mosaku), where Smoke (Michael B Jordan) visits her after returning from 'Chicago' was built beneath a canopy of oak trees on the 1810 Creedmoor Plantation, 1800 Bayou Road on Bayou Terre-aux-Boeufs, St Bernard, east of New Orleans in St Bernard Parish.

Scott Hicks' 2012 The Lucky One, with Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling was filmed here in 2012, as well as the 2016 TV remake of Alex Haley's Roots. It's not open to visitors, by the way.

The old warehouse transformed by Smoke and Stack (both played by Michael B Jordan) into their juke joint was built on the disused and overgrown Hidden Oaks Golf Course, 200 Oak Drive in the community of Braithwaite, nearly ten miles southeast of New Orleans. The course was closed in 2006 after being flooded during Hurricane Katrina. Gary Ross's Free State of Jones with Matthew McConaughey and Mahershala Ali was also filmed here in 2016.

Southern Louisiana doesn't have cotton fields so the plantation scenes were filmed at Laurel Valley Plantation, Thibodaux, on Route 1, 50 miles west of New Orleans on the Bayou Lafourche. Alfalfa plants stood in for the cotton being picked. Jedidiah's church, which bookends the story, was also built here. The Plantation – which you can visit – was previously seen in Alan Parker's 1987 Angel Heart, with Robert De Niro and Mickey Rourke.
