Although the locale remains ‘Woodsboro', Michigan became the location for the fourth entry in the tongue-in-cheek horror franchise because of its generous tax incentive programme to the film industry. It’s the turn of Ann Arbor, home to the University of Michigan, 35 miles west of Detroit, to stand in for the town.
About 15 miles northeast of Ann Arbor, in the town of Northville, the Next Chapter Bookstore & Bistro, 141 East Main Street, was used as the ‘Woodsboro’ bookstore, where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) publicises her book Out Of Darkness.
Just a few miles west of Detroit is the city of Dearborn, where Woodworth Middle School, 4951 Ternes Street, at Hubbard drive, stood in for ‘Woodsboro High School’
Finally to Ann Arbor itself: 1005 Lincoln Avenue, just south of Cambridge Road, in the North Burns Park neighbourhood southeast of Ann Arbor is the house of Jill Roberts (Emma Roberts), where her cousin, Sidney Prescott, stays.
Next door, 1007 Lincoln Avenue is the house of Jill’s friend Olivia (Marielle Jaffe)
9980 Saline Waterworks Road, in Saline, southwest of Ann Arbor, is the barn where fanboy Charlie Walker (Rory Culkin) organises the tasteful ‘Stab-a-thon’ party. Does this sound like a good idea?
After the party, it’s off to ‘329 Whispering Lane’, the home of Kirby (Hayden Panettiere), for the Stab-a-thon after-party – and the final bloodbath. The house is 19223 Clement Road, back in Northville.
