Brilliantly good-looking (with great Los Angeles locations) and bravely unlikeable remake of Jean-Luc Godard’s pop-culture landmark A Bout de Souffle, gaining oodles of cool credentials courtesy of Quentin Tarantino, who lists it as one of his faves.
The action is transferred from Sixties monochrome Paris to Eighties pastel California. Locations include the University of California, Los Angeles; Westwood and Venice Beach. The terrific murals, a feature of Los Angeles’ Venice area, are the ones near Windward Avenue and Speedway.
The nightmarishly futuristic hotel is the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, 404 South Figueroa Street, downtown Los Angeles, which you'll recognise from This Is Spinal Tap; Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar; In The Line Of Fire and Strange Days among many other screen appearances.
