This wisecracking Hollywood satire was made just before the notorious Hays code was seriously enforced. Set in the fictitious ‘Monarch Studios’, the film was shot at the MGM studios at 10202 West Washington Boulevard in Culver City, where director Victor Fleming would go on to hit the heights with Gone With The Wind and The Wizard Of Oz.
The nightclub scene filmed in the legendary Cocoanut Grove of the Ambassador Hotel, which used to stand at 3400 Wilshire Boulevard, midtown Los Angeles. The famed hotel, location of countless movies, including Oliver Stone’s The Doors, Devil In A Blue Dress, True Romance, S.W.A.T., Rocky, Se7en and The Graduate. In 2006, it was demolished.
