The Birth Of A Nation | 1915

DW Griffith’s Civil War epic and incendiary hymn of praise to the Ku Klux Klan was filmed around Los Angeles long before Hollywood became the centre of the film industry.

The ‘Battle of Petersburg’ was staged north of the city in LA’s San Fernando Valley.

Much of the location shooting took place around the area now occupied by Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills Cemetery, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive in Burbank, the last resting place of Charles Laughton, George Raft, Stan Laurel, Buster Keaton and Liberace.
