Another Woman | 1988
Academic Marion Post (Gena Rowlands) goes through an emotional crisis when she overhears therapy sessions of Hope (Mia Farrow) in one of Woody Allen’s non-comedy films.
The little theatre where Marion bumps into old pal Sandy Dennis and dreams an off-off-Broadway version of her life is the Cherry Lane Theatre, 38 Commerce Street between Bedford and Barrow Streets in Greenwich Village.
Originally built in 1817 as a farm silo, it has been a tobacco warehouse and a box factory. In 1924, it was converted to house avant garde theatre productions.
The Cherry Lane Theatre also appeared in Spike Lee’s Mo’ Better Blues, with Denzel Washington and Wesley Snipes, where its exterior became the ‘Beneath the Underdog’ club.
