Near-senile Mrs Watts (Geraldine Page) is obsessed with making one last trip, away from her ghastly family in 'Houston', to see the old family home, in this predictable tearjerker (adapted from Horton Foote's stage play) just about rescued from sentimentality-hell by the wonderful Page’s Oscar-grabbing performance.
The film was based, not in Houston but in Dallas, where the ‘Houston Bus Terminal’ is the old Dallas Railroad Terminal.
The fictitious town of 'Bountiful' is Waxahachie, that favourite Texas location, south of Dallas.
More scenes were filmed in Venus, some fifteen miles to the west (also featured in Bonne And Clyde), and in Five Points.
This is a basic entry and due to be expanded.
