Panther | 1995
The story of Sixties revolutionaries the Black Panthers, and the underhand tactics used by the FBI to undermine the movement, is set largely in Oakland, over the bay from San Francisco.
It’s on the double-decked Oakland Bay Bridge, linking Oakland with San Francisco, that the cops intimidate one of the Panthers.
But the ‘Oakland Army Induction Center’, where the Panthers’ rally is staged, is the familiar Park Plaza Hotel, 607 South Park View Street, overlooking Macarthur Park, downtown Los Angeles. The hotel's monumental exterior might be familiar from films such as The Bodyguard.
Filming also took place at Alameda County Courthouse, 1225 Fallon Street, Oakland, and the California State Capitol Building, Ninth Street between L and N Streets, Sacramento.
