The Duellists | 1977
Ridley Scott’s first feature, complete with trademark atmospheric mists and lush visuals, is Joseph Conrad’s story about a series of obsessive duels fought between two officers, D'Hubert and Feraud, (Harvey Keitel and Keith Carradine) during the Napoleonic Wars.
It was filmed around the beautiful medieval village of Sarlat la Caneda, 35 miles southeast of Perigueux in the Dordogne, and also featured in Franc Roddam's 1985 The Bride. There was also filming at Aviemore, on the A9 southeast of Inverness, Scotland.
The final duel takes place at the foot of Château de Commarque, about 10 miles to the northwest of Sarlat.
