The Devil's Rejects | 2005
Look out – the Fireflies are back, though the nasty tone makes the jokier House of 1,000 Corpses look positively lightweight.
Since Universal was a mite unhappy with the previous film, they were hardly delighted to welcome its even grimmer sequel back to the lot. The Firefly house was recreated on the Sable Ranch, 25975 Sand Canyon Road, Canyon Country, east of Santa Clarita. Part of an extensive complex including Rancho Maria, Charlie Altamont’s ‘Frontier Fun Town’ was also filmed here, on the Western street set.
The ‘Kahiki Palms Motel’, where Banjo & Sullivan find themselves at the mercy of Otis and his crazy family, is Club Ed, 42848 150th Street East on the southeast corner of Avenue L in Lancaster, about 70 miles north of Los Angeles.
A Fifties-style diner-motel-gas station complex, Club Ed was built as a setting for the 1991 thriller Eye Of The Storm, with Dennis Hopper and Lara Flynn Boyle. The set seems to have fared better than the film, living on to be featured in 1997’s Nothing To Lose, with Martin Lawrence and Tim Robbins, the 2001 David Spade comedy Joe Dirt and, more recently, TV’s The Mentalist.
