David Cronenberg’s weird yet understated drama about identical twin gynaecologists (which should have won Jeremy Irons the Oscar he later picked up for Reversal of Fortune) was filmed in Toronto.
You won't be able to eat at either of the film's restaurants. ‘Giannino’s’, the swanky Italian joint with the elaborate murals has now closed, while the elegant place, where Claire Niveau (Genevieve Bujold) discovers she's been dating two men, is simply the Conservatory of Casa Loma, 1 Austin Terrace, at Spadina Road.
This faux-medieval folly is a natural for the screen and graces plenty of films made in the city, including Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Cocktail, with Tom Cruise, Oscar-winning musical Chicago and, most famously, X-Men, where it became Professor Xavier's academy.
The apartment of the Mantle twins is Bell Trinity Square, 483 Bay Street behind the Eaton Place shopping complex, and it’s just outside, in Trinity Square Park, that the movie ends.
