Cat Ballou (Jane Fonda) hires drunken has-been gunslinger Kid Shelleen (Oscar-winning Lee Marvin) to kill villain Tim Strawn (Marvin again) in revenge for the death of her father in this spoof Western made at what was the Buckskin Joe Frontier Town, a studio/theme park in the Greenhorn Mountains, off I-50 about eight miles west of Cañon City, Colorado.
The park and studio, which open in 1957, closed in 2010 and was sold to William Koch – one of the Koch brothers – who planned to move the buildings to his ranch. It's since been reported that the property was been sold on and is to be redeveloped.
Among the more famous films which also used Buckskin Joe are The Cowboys, Comes a Horseman, the 1969 True Grit and Lightning Jack.
