Carry On Matron | 1972

There’s something about hospitals that really suits the Carry On... format. ‘Finisham Maternity Hospital’, from which Sid (Sid James) and his none-too-bright gang plan to steal contraceptive pills (this must be a first – and last – in heist movies) is Heatherwood Hospital, London Road in Ascot, Berkshire. Although it’s a real hospital, as far as I'm aware, it has neither a Bunn Ward nor an Oven Ward.

The home of glam movie star Jane Darling, to which dragged-up Cyril ‘Cyrille’ Carter (Kenneth Cope) gets unwillingly sent when she goes into labour, is the White House, 3 Village Road in Denham Village, Buckinghamshire. A couple of miles northeast of Pinewood Studios, the village is familiar from plenty of films including Blithe Spirit and Murder Ahoy.

Only a few minutes away, lovestruck Matron (Hattie Jacques) finally marries hypochondriac Sir Bernard (Kenneth Williams) at St. Mary's Church, Village Road.
