The mansion used in Reversal of Fortune, Barbet Schroeder’s film of the von Bulow case, is the Knole Mansion in Old Westbury, Long Island, New York
The Philadelphia Story is laced with classic Cole Porter songs and relocated to Rhode Island.
The mansion, where Mike Connor (Frank Sinatra) and CK Dexter-Haven (Bing Crosby) vie for Tracy Lord (Grace Kelly, in her final film before retiring), is Clarendon Court, Bellevue Avenue, in Newport. It’s a private home, not open to the public, and was the home of Claus von Bulow, the millionaire businessman cleared of the attempted murder of his wife, Sunny.
The von Bulow story is told in Barbet Schroeder’s 1990 Reversal of Fortune, with Jeremy Irons as the famously blameless man. You won’t be surprised to hear that the film was not made at Clarendon Court.
