A superior jokey shocker, directed by Tom Holland, the writer of Fright Night and Psycho II, with dying killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) possessing the 'Good Guy' doll. A string of enjoyably campy sequels followed.

The quartzite stone-clad apartment block of Karen Barclay (Catherine Hicks), in which the malevolent Chucky Doll goes on the rampage, is the Brewster Apartments, 2800 North Pine Grove Avenue at West Diversey Parkway in Chicago’s Lake View district.

The Brewster was also seen in 1986 comedy thriller Running Scared, with Gregory Hines and Billy Crystal.
