Taut little off-centre noir from the Wachowskis, who immediately went on to mega-success with The Matrix. Like that sci-fi blockbuster, the action is set in the siblings' hometown of 'Chicago' while being filmed elsewhere.
The deco apartment block, where neighbours Violet (Jennifer Tilly) and Corky (Gina Gershon) enjoy what readers of one magazine voted the most popular kiss in screen history, is actually the Talmadge Apartments, 3278 Wilshire Boulevard at Berendo Street, Midtown Los Angeles.
If the name rings a bell, that's because it's named after silent film actress Norma Talmadge who, with her husband, producer Joseph Schenk, owned the building when it opened in 1924.
The Talmadge stands just opposite Immanuel Presbyterian Church, seen in The Amazing Spider Man.
